Under the guidance of Saleh Al Jasser, Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Transport General Authority (TGA), a strategic partnership agreement has been established between TGA and Uber Technologies to introduce autonomous vehicles in the Kingdom.
This initiative highlights the commitment to integrating modern technologies and innovative mobility solutions, aligning with both the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, acting President of TGA, and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during a meeting in Riyadh, held alongside the Saudi-US Investment Forum, with key representatives from pertinent governmental bodies present.
The TGA plans to launch its first autonomous vehicle rides through the Uber platform by the end of this year, in collaboration with technology partners. Initially, the vehicles will have onboard drivers to prioritize safety during these early operational phases.
Utilizing Uber’s extensive ridesharing network, the TGA and Uber will also work with autonomous vehicle technology providers to broaden consumer access to this advanced mode of transportation.
The strategic partnership is in line with Saudi Vision 2030’s goals to revolutionize mobility, signifying a progressive change in the Kingdom’s economy, infrastructure, and transportation sector.
The rollout of these autonomous vehicles will enhance existing infrastructure and expedite the provision of seamless mobility solutions for both residents and visitors alike.
Dr. Al-Rumaih emphasized that this partnership aligns with national aspirations to foster smart transport technologies and achieve the objectives set forth in Vision 2030.
He elaborated that through its collaboration with Uber, the TGA seeks to build a regulatory framework that promotes innovation while ensuring high safety and service standards across the transportation landscape.
Both the TGA and Uber reiterated their unwavering commitment to safety, working together to create a robust regulatory environment that enhances transportation safety and fosters the development of safer roads and smarter mobility options for everyone.
