Epic Games prepares to relaunch Fortnite on iOS following a court ruling.
"Apple's persistent attempts to stifle competition will not be tolerated," wrote Judge Gonzalez Rogers in a recent ruling. "This injunction is not subject to negotiation.
Once a party disregards a court order, there are no second chances. Time is critical, and the Court will not accept further delays."
In light of this new court order, Epic Games has announced plans to submit a revised version of Fortnite to the iOS App Store in the United States within the next week.
This update will provide players the choice between the standard Apple App Store payment system and Epic's own "Epic Direct Payment" method, which is designed to be more cost-effective for acquiring in-game currency and items.
This anticipated return to the App Store will resemble a system that was briefly implemented for iOS users in August 2020, when Epic introduced alternative payment options in a deliberate breach of Apple's then-existing store policies.
Subsequently, Apple removed Fortnite from the iOS App Store within hours, igniting a legal confrontation that appears to be nearing resolution.
This story is developing and will be updated as new information becomes available.
