Apple's upcoming Xcode 26 hints at integrating Anthropic's AI models alongside existing ones.
In the latest iteration of Xcode, Apple appears to be taking significant steps towards integrating new artificial intelligence capabilities.
The beta version of Xcode 26 includes indications that the tech giant plans to incorporate Anthropic's Claude and Opus large language models into its integrated development environment (IDE).
This move is poised to enhance existing features that currently utilize either Apple's proprietary models or OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Insights from a dedicated Apple community publication reveal "multiple references to built-in support for Anthropic accounts" within the software. Notably, these are found under the "Intelligence" menu.
Here, users can log in with ChatGPT credentials or enter an API key to enjoy expanded messaging limits.
At WWDC24, Apple introduced a suite of functionalities designed as a counterpart to GitHub Copilot in Xcode, initially focusing on Apple's own AI models for select applications.
These offerings have since grown substantially following this year's developer conference. Now, users have the capability to engage in discussions about codebases, deliberate changes, or request suggestions using ChatGPT.
While access begins with a limited set of messages, it can be significantly enhanced by logging into a ChatGPT account or using an API key.
This past summer marked Apple's announcement regarding potential integration with Anthropic’s models through an API key.
However, there was no mention then of direct support for Anthropic accounts-a more cost-effective option for many users compared to relying solely on APIs.
