Dubai Police, in close coordination with the Ministry of Interior, has achieved a significant international security milestone by dismantling the notorious “Lions” criminal network, one of the most dangerous organized crime groups that emerged in Scotland over recent decades, as part of Operation Armorum led by Spanish authorities, resulting in the arrest of 14 suspects across multiple countries including the UAE, while 20 others remain under investigation in Spain in a major cross-border crackdown.
The operation highlighted Dubai Police’s high readiness and advanced capabilities in tackling transnational crime, as officers successfully arrested a key gang member immediately upon arrival at Dubai airports following the issuance of an Interpol red notice, demonstrating rapid response efficiency and strong integration with global law enforcement systems.
Operation Armorum stands as a powerful example of international law enforcement collaboration, involving major entities such as Dubai Police, the Spanish Civil Guard, Europol, the UK National Crime Agency, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and several other global agencies, reflecting a coordinated multinational effort to combat organized crime at scale.
Through this extensive cooperation, authorities were able to track network members with precision, dismantle its operational structure, and seize financial assets linked to illegal activities, delivering a substantial blow to the organization’s financial backbone and limiting its ability to regroup or continue operations.
Investigations revealed that the “Lions” network was heavily involved in large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering, with operations spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, relying on shell companies and complex financial transfers to manage illicit profits, underscoring the ongoing global threat posed by such networks and the critical importance of sustained international cooperation to combat them.
