As online learning continues across the United Arab Emirates due to ongoing regional developments parents are navigating complex daily decisions regarding their children’s education and logistics and school transport has emerged as one of the most pressing concerns as many families reassess financial commitments amid uncertainty about when in person classes will fully resume.

Schools across the UAE shifted to distance learning on March 2 following regional security developments and the measure was extended until March 6 before an early spring break was announced and students returned again to online learning on March 23 with the system set to continue until April 6 increasing uncertainty for families.

This situation has prompted some parents to consider cancelling school bus subscriptions for the upcoming term while others have chosen to delay payments until there is clearer visibility especially as the possibility of extended online learning remains and many are reluctant to commit large sums without guaranteed service usage.

Husna Jawad a parent based in Dubai explained that she received a request to confirm bus seats for her children but discovered that registration required immediate payment which made her hesitant as she lacks clarity on school reopening timelines and is willing to risk losing the seats to avoid paying a large upfront fee.

In Abu Dhabi Amina decided to postpone enrolling her daughter in the school bus service despite needing it after starting a new job as she prefers to wait for clearer information before making a financial commitment emphasizing that delaying payment provides flexibility and reduces potential losses.

Meanwhile parents who have already paid in advance face greater financial pressure as they question whether they are entitled to partial refunds Mohammed Saleem noted that he paid ten thousand dirhams per child for his three children and they have not used the service since early March which leads him to seek reimbursement for the unused period.

Saleem added that he contacted the service provider but has not yet received a response although he remains confident that a fair solution will be offered based on previous experience during the pandemic when fees were refunded for unused months giving him hope for a similar outcome this time.

Another parent who preferred to remain anonymous stated that she also reached out to the bus provider during the spring break without receiving any reply and indicated that she may escalate the issue to the relevant authorities if the situation continues reflecting the growing concern among parents regarding their financial rights.
