The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is undertaking a significant road expansion project aimed at increasing traffic capacity between Ras Al Khor and Al Meydan Street by 50%. This involves widening a key lane, raising vehicle flow capacity from 1,800 to 2,700 vehicles per hour. The project, part of RTA’s Quick Wins initiative, seeks to alleviate congestion, improve safety, and support urban development.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to widen the right-turn lane for vehicles traveling from Ras Al Khor towards the Al Meydan Street Interchange. This development is anticipated to increase traffic capacity by an impressive 50%.
Set for completion by August 10, the project will expand the number of lanes from two to three. This enhancement aims to streamline traffic flow between Ras Al Khor Industrial Area and Nad Al Sheba, while also facilitating movement toward Al Meydan Street and its surrounding districts.
"RTA implements quick wins for the traffic coming from Ras Al Khor towards Al Meydan Street Interchange. The improvement is poised for completion on August 10," tweeted Dubai Media Office on August 7.
The RTA projects that this upgrade will boost vehicle capacity from 1,800 to 2,700 vehicles per hour-a substantial increase of 30%. This change is expected to significantly reduce congestion and decrease waiting times at key intersections during peak hours.
This infrastructure enhancement will benefit traffic directed toward Business Bay, Ghadeer Al Tair, Al Quoz, Al Safa, as well as adjacent development initiatives.
In a statement reflecting its ongoing commitment to supporting urban growth across Dubai, the RTA said: “These improvements are part of our continuous effort to align with rapid urbanization and population growth witnessed across the emirate."
"Through continuous road infrastructure enhancements and expansion of our transport network," continued the RTA statement. "We aim to improve operational efficiency, reduce travel times, alleviate congestion, and enhance road safety for all users.”
The planned measures are integral to RTA's 'Quick Wins' strategy-a strategic plan subject to regular reviews and updates. Roads selected for improvement are identified through comprehensive traffic studies alongside feedback from public input sessions and operational field monitoring.
