Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed a major milestone in the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project by inaugurating the fifth and final bridge at the Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Mina Street interchange.
This marks the full completion of development works in the Bur Dubai section of the corridor, enabling uninterrupted traffic flow from Al Garhoud Bridge to Port Rashid, Infinity Bridge, and the Waterfront Market - reducing travel time from 80 minutes to just 12 minutes.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, stated that the project was implemented under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and under the constant supervision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, to support the rapid urban and population growth in the area.
Spanning 13 kilometers across Sheikh Rashid Street, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street, the Al Shindagha Corridor project includes 15 upgraded intersections, with 18 kilometers of bridges and tunnels. It serves approximately one million residents and boosts road capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 vehicles per hour, while slashing journey times to just 16 minutes by 2030. The estimated economic benefit of reduced travel time is valued at AED 45 billion over 20 years.
The project features iconic infrastructure such as the Infinity Bridge - distinguished by its infinity-shaped arch - and several critical interchanges, including the Al Saqr and Khalid bin Al Waleed junctions. It also incorporates direct access bridges to Dubai Islands from both Deira and Bur Dubai sides.
Currently, RTA is progressing with the 1,650-meter Al Khaleej Street Tunnel project, which has reached 30% completion. Once finished, it will offer seamless traffic movement between Infinity Bridge and Cairo Street, serving key communities like Abu Hail, Al Wuheida, Al Mamzar, and major developments including Port Al Hamriya, Dubai Islands, and the Waterfront Market.
