Dubai Police General Headquarters has announced the launch of a joint awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the risks associated with online insults, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb cybercrime and strengthen digital awareness across the community.
The initiative reflects Dubai Police’s proactive approach to safeguarding individuals and reinforcing digital security, in line with its broader commitment to maintaining social stability amid rapid technological advancements.
Dubai Police emphasized its commitment to strengthening cooperation and building effective communication channels with government and private sector entities, while mobilizing all available resources to preserve the reputation of the United Arab Emirates and uphold its positive global image. The campaign forms part of an integrated strategy designed to enhance community security and protect individuals from risks linked to the misuse of social media platforms.
Through this initiative, Dubai Police seeks to elevate awareness levels among employees and customers alike, while promoting a culture of civilized communication and responsible conduct in workplaces and across digital platforms. The campaign underscores that conscious and responsible use of modern technology is essential to preventing harmful practices that may expose individuals to legal consequences.
The campaign includes an important warning to citizens and residents through an awareness material entitled “Watch your words before you publish them.. Think before you post», where it emphasizes that insulting or slandering through social media sites is a crime punishable by imprisonment and a fine of up to 500,000 dirhams. This warning comes within the framework of clarifying the legal consequences of publishing or circulating offensive content through the digital space.
Dubai Police called on concerned entities to cooperate in disseminating the awareness materials among employees and clients, reaffirming that maintaining a safe digital environment that respects societal values and applicable laws is a shared responsibility. It further stressed that any content published online or on social media is subject to legal accountability and may serve as digital evidence under the law, underscoring the importance of adhering to mutual respect, as well as established social values, customs, and traditions when engaging on digital platforms.
