Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, has issued a firm warning to parents against allowing their children to ride recreational motorbikes or operate any type of vehicle on public roads. He stressed that such behavior poses a serious threat to the lives of children and other road users, and undermines overall traffic safety standards in the Emirate.
According to Al Mazrouei, traffic patrol officers recently intercepted a child riding a recreational motorbike on a public street, accompanied by another child. The patrol immediately stopped them to ensure their safety and the safety of other motorists.
The child’s guardian was summoned and reportedly justified the incident by claiming a lack of awareness of traffic regulations. As a result, a formal report was filed and the necessary legal procedures were initiated.
Dubai Police applied the provisions of Wadeema’s Law, the UAE Child Rights Law, which criminalizes exposing a child to danger, neglecting them, or permitting activities that may threaten their physical or psychological well being.
Additionally, the motorbike was impounded in accordance with Dubai Local Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning vehicle confiscation, under which the release fee in such cases may reach AED 50,000.
Al Mazrouei emphasized that allowing a child to drive on a public road constitutes extremely dangerous conduct, as children lack the physical and cognitive maturity required to assess road risks, respond to sudden situations, or safely navigate traffic conditions.
He reiterated that public roads are not spaces for recreation or experimentation, and that recreational bikes are intended for designated, controlled environments under direct supervision, not among active traffic lanes.
He called on parents to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities by closely supervising their children and refraining from permitting them to operate any vehicle before reaching the legal age or obtaining proper licensing. Ignorance of the law, he stressed, does not exempt individuals from accountability.
He also urged community members to report such hazardous behavior through the Dubai Police call center (901) or via the “Police Eye” service available on the Dubai Police smart application.
He concluded by affirming that Dubai Police will take strict legal action against anyone who endangers their children or others, in order to safeguard lives and preserve community safety.
