woman AED 20,000 in compensation after he stole her personal laptop. This ruling comes in addition to a prior AED 30,000 fine imposed on him by the Criminal Court, bringing the total financial penalty to AED 50,000.

According to case documents, the woman filed a civil lawsuit demanding AED 21,399 in compensation for the material and moral damages she suffered, along with legal interest, fees, and court expenses.

She stated that the defendant had unlawfully taken her laptop using deceptive methods. He was previously convicted in absentia by the Criminal Court, which fined him AED 30,000-a verdict that has since become final, as the defendant failed to attend the hearings.

In its reasoning, the civil court explained that the criminal conviction against the defendant is now final and binding, giving it full legal authority before the civil judiciary.

Therefore, the elements of liability cannot be reconsidered, as the wrongful act forming the basis of the criminal case is the same act on which the civil claim is based.

This establishes, with certainty, the defendant’s fault, the damages incurred by the plaintiff, and the causal link between them.

The court further noted that the criminal ruling definitively proved the defendant’s misconduct, which caused both material and emotional harm to the woman.

Consequently, the court deemed it appropriate to award her AED 20,000 in compensation for all damages suffered. It also ordered the defendant to bear court fees and expenses, while dismissing any additional claims.
