A police video released on Friday shows two Abu Dhabi drivers engaged in major collisions following abrupt stops on the road owing to unanticipated dangers.

The first incidence happened when a car stopped after seeing a mattress fly off the back of a pickup truck; the second included a driver stopping upon finding steel rods strewn on the road. Both times, if the drivers had just swerved around the hazards and carried on, the collisions could have been avoided.

The first mishap shown on the video was a pickup truck carrying numerous mattresses. One of the mattresses slid off the truck and dropped on the road, causing adjacent cars to swerve and change lanes to evade it. But a white automobile nearby chose to stop instead of negotiating the dropped mattress. A water delivery truck directly behind crashed into the rear of the white car at this unexpected stop. The force was so great that the truck turned onto its side, almost generating more crashes with surrounding cars.

The second incidence shown in the video saw steel rods rolling onto a crowded road. A white van stopped suddenly as other drivers decided to keep on across the rods. A major accident resulted from another car slamming into the rear of the van at this sudden stop.

The Abu Dhabi Police advised drivers to keep concentrated and avoid distractions since they underlined the need of not stopping in the middle of the road while facing unforeseen hazards. "Just avoid such unexpected hazards on the roads; do not stop for any reason," the police advised in their social media post. They underlined that preventing such mishaps depends on keeping one concentrated on driving and sustaining mobility.

In Abu Dhabi, stopping in the middle of the road is regarded as a traffic infringement with fines of Dh1,000 along with six black points on the driver's record. These fines discourage drivers from endangering others and themselves and make sure they give road safety top priority.

Particularly in circumstances of car breakdowns or emergencies, Brigadier Mahmoud Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, offered extra safety rules for drivers, In case of a car breakdown, he recommended drivers to stay off the road and make use of approved emergency bays. The road's right shoulder should only be utilized in very rare situations of need. Before approaching the closest exit for safety, he advised drivers to also turn on their four-way danger lights to alert other drivers.

The video and later police statement act as a reminder of the risks unexpected pauses in traffic provide, particularly in high-speed regions like highways. Drivers have to understand that stopping suddenly puts other road users as well as their own risk of becoming engaged in a collision. Rather than stopping completely, the right reaction to dangers like dropped objects or trash is to keep control of the car and negotiate around the obstruction if at least possible.

Moreover, the police underlined the need of keeping concentration when driving. Whether from mobile devices, in-car entertainment, or outside events, distractions can cause longer reaction times and poor decision-making, therefore raising the risk of accidents.

The two mishaps in Abu Dhabi emphasize the crucial need of drivers avoiding stopping in the middle of the road in reaction to unanticipated risks. Rather, their attention should be on carefully negotiating challenges. The cautions and safety rules issued by the Abu Dhabi Police seek to inform drivers on responsible handling of certain circumstances thereby guaranteeing safer roads for everybody.
