A 32-year-old Indian expat from Kerala, known as SM, passed away in a terrible tragedy near Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah during a camping trip. The event happened while the Dubai resident was out with three friends over the long UAE National Day break.
A tragic death of an expat in Jebel Jais
His roommate, who opted to remain nameless, said the group arrived at Jebel Jais on Monday night and set up tent. Early Tuesday morning, SM vanished from sight without warning. "His friends alerted the authorities right away after they couldn find him," the roommate said. Later authorities verified the accident, and SM's body was sent to Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.
President of Incas and World Malayali Council representative Nassar Al Maha underlined the risks associated with mountainous regions like Jebel Jais. He advised guests to use caution, especially when participating in sometimes dangerous hobbies like photographing close-ups of cliff edges. "Safety precautions are critical in such terrains," he stated, stressing the need of tourists being aware of their surroundings.
Once all required paperwork were finished, SM's body was returned to Kerala. His roommate, who went to the southern Indian state to pick up the remains, conveyed his great sadness. "I am at Kannur airport right now waiting to bring his body home for the last rites," he said. He described SM as a close friend and comrade and related the years he had spent living with him as both a roommate and coworker.
Along with a few others, the two men rented a flat in Al Quoz, Dubai. SM was a mechanical supervisor in the same company where his roommate worked in the body shop. Together, the two usually started road trips and outdoor outings. When he thought back on the fatal day, his roommate remembered, "He left the office early that day to head to Ras Al Khaimah with the others. I had office job, hence I couldn't join them. Usually, though, we went to such sites together.
Friends of SM said he was daring and eager about visiting new locations. But finally, this passion for adventure resulted in a tragic event that shocked his close friends and associates. Having known him for more than four years, his roommate claimed he still found it difficult to process the loss. "It's difficult to believe he's gone," he continued, his voice weighed with loss.
The sudden death of SM has left his family, friends, and the larger community in both Dubai and his hometown in Kerala under shadow. Although his love for life and adventurous attitude will always be remembered, the terrible catastrophe emphasizes the need of giving safety top priority especially in difficult terrain. His loved ones are left struggling with the permanent loss of a beloved friend and family member as they get ready to bid their farewells.
