A recent media law in the UAE mandates individuals promoting content on social media, including visiting creators, to obtain a permit. The initiative aims to enhance media quality and attract investment.
Individuals wishing to publish promotional content on social media platforms in the United Arab Emirates are now required to secure an Advertiser Permit. This mandate applies regardless of whether the promotion is paid or voluntary and extends to visiting content creators operating within the nation’s borders.
The UAE Media Council unveiled this new regulation on Tuesday as part of its comprehensive framework designed to keep pace with the rapidly evolving media industry. By setting these guidelines, authorities aim to enhance content quality, boost sector attractiveness for investment, and draw skilled professionals into content creation.
An appealing aspect of this initiative is that permits will be issued free of charge for an initial period of three years.
Permit Requirements for Influencers
Visiting influencers are specifically required to apply for a Visitor Advertiser Permit valid for three months. Applicants must register through a licensed advertising or talent management agency authorized by the council in order to operate in the UAE; these permits can be renewed once, extending validity up to six months in total.
According to Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, introducing the Advertiser Permit marks a significant step toward refining digital advertising regulations. "We are fostering an integrated media model that reflects advancements in digital technology," he stated, emphasizing their commitment toward clear standards protecting public rights while defining responsible professional relationships across stakeholders.
Al Shehhi elaborated further on supporting creativity as critical not only locally but internationally: “Creative talent represents foundational growth elements within this booming industry,” he asserted-highlighting legislative updates alongside strategic initiatives aiming at enriching contributions towards national economic aspirations aligned with broader future visions held by leadership across governmental strata throughout Emirates nationwide scope.”
