The Attorney General of the United Arab Emirates Counselor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi has ordered the arrest of another group consisting of twenty five individuals of various nationalities and referred them to an urgent trial after investigations confirmed their involvement in publishing and circulating misleading digital content across multiple online platforms The individuals were accused of spreading fabricated or manipulated information designed to create confusion within society undermine public security and harm the stability of the state This action comes as part of ongoing monitoring and investigative efforts carried out by authorities to track and address misleading content being distributed through digital platforms during the current regional developments.
According to the results of investigations conducted by the Public Prosecution along with electronic monitoring operations the suspects were divided into three groups each involved in different forms of online activity Authorities discovered that some of the accused shared genuine video clips related to ongoing events while others created fabricated videos using artificial intelligence technologies In addition a third group was found to have promoted a foreign state engaged in hostile military actions while praising its leadership and military activities in the region which authorities considered harmful to public security and capable of misleading public opinion regarding the security situation in the country.
Investigators revealed that the first group was responsible for publishing and circulating authentic videos showing missiles passing through the sky over the country or footage related to their interception as well as images documenting the aftermath of such incidents The suspects also shared clips showing groups of people gathering to observe these events while adding commentary and sound effects suggesting that attacks were taking place These posts had the potential to create fear and anxiety among members of the public while also providing material that hostile accounts could exploit to spread misleading narratives about the security situation within the United Arab Emirates Additionally such videos could reveal certain defensive capabilities and allow observers to analyze patterns related to defensive responses.
The second group was found to have distributed fabricated video content produced using artificial intelligence technologies or by reposting footage from incidents that occurred outside the country while falsely claiming that the events had taken place within the UAE The manipulated videos included scenes depicting explosions fires rising smoke columns or missiles flying and falling within various areas inside the country In many cases the creators added names of different emirates national flags or specific dates and times to give credibility to these false claims which authorities said could mislead public opinion and spread fear and panic among members of society.
Investigations also showed that the third group published content praising a hostile state and its political and military leadership while promoting its military activities in the region The suspects circulated images and video clips expressing admiration for leaders of that state and encouraging support for it while portraying missile attacks as military achievements In addition they reposted propaganda materials supporting hostile narratives which authorities said could damage national interests and undermine social stability.
The Public Prosecution confirmed that it has begun questioning the suspects regarding the charges brought against them and has ordered their detention pending the completion of ongoing investigations before referring them to the competent courts for legal proceedings in accordance with the laws in force in the country.
Attorney General Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi stressed that such acts represent serious violations of the law and require firm legal action because of their potential to mislead public opinion and create unrest within society He emphasized that exploiting digital platforms to publish misleading content or share videos that could harm public security or expose the country’s defensive capabilities particularly during periods of military tension constitutes a criminal offense that will be met with strict legal measures.
He further affirmed that anyone proven to be involved in such actions will be referred to the judiciary to face the legal consequences stipulated under UAE law adding that exaggerating events manipulating media content or spreading misleading narratives without regard for the country’s circumstances and security requirements represents a serious offense punishable by law.
The Attorney General had previously ordered the arrest of ten additional suspects of various nationalities who were also accused of publishing videos showing genuine footage of air defense systems responding to attacks or images of projectiles on the ground and crowds gathering to watch events as well as distributing fabricated clips generated using artificial intelligence that falsely suggested explosions strikes inside the country attacks on prominent landmarks or widespread fires with rising smoke in various locations which were later confirmed to be untrue.
