Retired German star Toni Kroos surprised many by revealing he was never a Real Madrid fan, contrary to childhood photos suggesting otherwise. He has long supported Werder Bremen instead, despite his successful career with Real Madrid.

German football star Toni Kroos, who recently retired from professional play, has left Real Madrid fans in astonishment with a surprising revelation. Despite a widely circulated childhood photo of him donning the Spanish club's jersey, Kroos candidly admitted he has never been a devoted supporter of the team.

In an interview reported by the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Kroos explained that the photo was taken when he was seven years old. In the image, he is wearing a jersey of former Portuguese player Luis Figo, a historic figure of Real Madrid.

Kroos commented, "For some reason, I was wearing Figo’s shirt with Real Madrid and didn’t realize at that time the significance it would have later on." He further clarified, "I was never a Real Madrid fan, but as the photo circulated on social media, some assumed I had supported the club since childhood. That's not true, but it's a photo that ultimately served me well."

The newspaper pointed out that throughout his career, Kroos has consistently expressed his allegiance to the German club Werder Bremen, which he supported during his youth.

It's noteworthy that Kroos joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014, after transferring from Bayern Munich. He continued to don the white jersey and contribute to the club's success until his retirement following Germany’s journey in the UEFA Euro 2024 competition.
