The General Command of Sharjah Police, represented by the Directorate of Drug Prevention and Control, has successfully thwarted a major smuggling operation led by an international network operating across four countries. The network attempted to bring over 12 kilograms of cocaine into the UAE for distribution.
Sharjah Police, in cooperation with the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, monitored suspicious activities, gathered intelligence, and coordinated closely with the leadership, ultimately preventing the smuggling attempt before the drugs could enter the country.
Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Asm, Director of the Directorate of Drug Prevention and Control, confirmed that the operation resulted in the arrest of the main trafficker-an Asian national-upon his arrival in the UAE through a Gulf country. Two additional suspects, both African nationals, were also apprehended inside the country while receiving the illicit shipment.
He added that further investigations, supported by the National Center for Early Information, enabled authorities to identify another traveler of the same nationality who was transiting through a UAE airport while traveling from one Gulf country to another.
Within less than two hours, coordination with the National Anti-Narcotics Authority enabled the sharing of the suspect’s details and concealment method with the destination country, where authorities seized approximately five more kilograms of cocaine in his possession.
Brigadier Al Asm praised the joint efforts that led to the dismantling of this international operation, emphasizing that the high level of professionalism and accuracy in tracking the network’s movements were key factors in completing the two seizures within a remarkably short timeframe.
