The UAE Ministry of Interior has announced that doctors in 13 vital medical specialties can now register for the “Bin Wraiqah” service - an emergency mobility solution that facilitates swift and unobstructed access to hospitals during critical situations.
This innovative service grants special traffic exemptions for eligible doctors, including a speed allowance of up to 40 km/h over the posted limit, the legal use of road shoulders, and real-time support from traffic patrols to ensure safe and prompt arrival at medical facilities.
Launched in July 2020 by H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the “Bin Wraiqah” service was introduced to empower first responders in the healthcare sector and enhance emergency readiness in line with the UAE’s commitment to global excellence in public services.
According to Colonel Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Dhahouri, Director of Service Development at the Ministry, the service is designed for doctors who are urgently called in by hospitals. Once activated through the Ministry’s smart app, the system tracks the doctor’s route and coordinates with patrol units to clear traffic obstacles along the way, while operations rooms offer guidance and support in real time.
However, the service is not open to all doctors. Eligibility is limited to those practicing in pre-approved essential specialties. To qualify, doctors must possess a valid medical license, prior approval for service use, and have completed a specialized training course on emergency driving.
By reducing travel time and enhancing response efficiency, the “Bin Wraiqah” service strengthens the UAE’s healthcare and traffic systems simultaneously, ensuring safety for both medical professionals and the public during emergency events.
