The UAE government has announced the launch of a new service in Dubai: contactless hotel check-in.

In this context, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, explained that this new initiative announced by the UAE government sets a new standard for guest comfort and safety within hotels.

This service will represent a significant step towards achieving the ambitious goals of enhancing Dubai's position as a global entertainment destination.

It is also worth noting that the innovative biometric and digital technology, developed by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, is now officially available through several independent providers and is ready for immediate integration into Dubai’s hotels and holiday homes.

This service will allow guests to enjoy a seamless and fast check-in experience, demonstrating Dubai’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to further solidify its position as a leading global tourism destination. This aligns with D33’s focus on digital transformation and smart city projects across the UAE.

With this technology, visitors can complete all their check-in procedures before arrival using their mobile phones by uploading the necessary ID documents and biometric data once, thus minimizing typical check-in delays.

Upon arrival, visitors can easily bypass the standard hotel check-in procedures in Dubai and begin their stay.

Furthermore, the securely stored data remains valid until the ID document expires, and only faster authentication, such as facial recognition, will be required for future visits.

Repeat tourists represent approximately a quarter of all annual trips to Dubai, and this new service facilitates their return and strengthens their connection to the city.

In this context, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed explained: “Thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, our city continues to lead the way in embracing innovation and delivering unparalleled experiences.”

He added, “By employing the latest technologies, we are not only enhancing the guest experience but also reinforcing Dubai’s strategic position in long-term tourism growth. The launch of this technology is closely aligned with Dubai’s Economic Plan (D33), underscoring our goal of a smart, seamless, and safe urban environment, and demonstrating our commitment to strengthening Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for business and leisure.”

His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, stated: “The launch of this comprehensive, contactless, one-time check-in solution marks a turning point for Dubai’s hospitality sector and is a clear demonstration of our progress towards the goals of the D33 Agenda. Furthermore, this solution showcases the transformative power of public-private partnerships in Dubai, benefiting both stakeholders and tourists. Under the guidance of our wise leadership, we will continue to explore ways to support the ongoing expansion of the city’s tourism ecosystem and its vital contribution to the emirate’s economy.

This solution aims for a simple integration with existing hotel apps or online platforms, enabling a seamless transition for participating businesses. Beyond its obvious benefits, this technology has significant potential for use at other tourism touchpoints, such as car rentals, paving the way for a more integrated and personalized guest experience across the city. It also expands the integration of smart technology across destinations, such as the installation of smart tunnels at Dubai International Airport, which has reduced passport processing times to mere seconds.

Dubai’s hospitality sector is a key driver of this growth.” To further develop the city as a global destination, Dubai boasts world-class facilities and services across 820 hotels and hotel residences. This sector, complementing Dubai’s broader offerings, has helped the city reach new heights, welcoming 15.70 million international overnight visitors in the first ten months of 2025, a 5% year-on-year increase, with a total of 36.71 million hotel nights spent by guests in the emirate’s hotels.
