Sharjah Municipality has reaffirmed that the 10-minute grace period granted to users of public parking spaces will remain in effect before any violation is issued.
This clarification was made by Hamed Al Qayed, Director of the Public Parking Department, during his statement on the “Direct Line” program broadcast on Sharjah Radio, emphasizing that no changes have been introduced to this system.
Al Qayed explained that the grace period applies to all drivers, whether they are parking in a spot for the first time or moving to another parking space within the same zone.
He noted that the main purpose of this allowance is to make payment easier and give users enough time to complete the transaction without risking an immediate fine.
He added that the digital scanning vehicles rely on an advanced system to monitor cars with high accuracy.
These vehicles take a first photo as they pass by the parked car, then return 10 minutes later to capture a second image and verify whether payment has been made.
If the vehicle moves to another space within a short period, the system automatically counts it as a new parking session and grants the driver a fresh grace period-an approach also followed by on-ground parking inspectors.
Al Qayed also confirmed that all existing benefits and regulations related to parking services remain unchanged. The municipality aims, through this grace period, to improve customer satisfaction and streamline the use of parking facilities across various areas of the vibrant emirate
