The United Arab Emirates has officially announced that public parking across the country will be free of charge during the National Day holiday, a move welcomed by residents and visitors preparing to celebrate the country’s 53rd National Day.

The decision aims to facilitate traffic flow, ease public mobility, and support the festive atmosphere expected across all emirates during the long holiday period.

According to statements released by several municipal authorities, the free-parking policy will take effect starting Saturday, November 30, and continue until the end of the National Day celebrations.

Paid parking services will resume on Tuesday, December 3, following the conclusion of the official holiday.

The announcement applies to most public parking zones, with the exception of spaces designated for special permits or restricted uses, such as parking for people of determination and emergency service areas.

Municipal officials noted that the initiative is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to make public services more accessible during major national events.

By lifting parking fees, authorities hope to reduce congestion near popular celebration venues, including shopping malls, main roads, beaches, and cultural landmarks where fireworks, parades, and heritage shows are scheduled to take place.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai emphasized that all public parking zones-marked with the traditional blue signboards-will be included in the free-parking announcement.

Multi-storey parking buildings, however, will continue to apply standard fees, as they operate under special regulations. RTA reminded motorists to pay attention to on-site signage to avoid misunderstanding the rules during the holiday period.

In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Municipalities and Transport confirmed that the “Mawaqif” parking system will not charge residents throughout the holiday.

Officials also announced that toll gates under the “Darb” system will be deactivated during National Day, allowing vehicles to pass freely without automatic deductions.

The department said the move is intended to support community participation in the festivities and help families travel conveniently between different celebratory sites.

Sharjah’s municipality issued a similar directive, noting that free parking will support local businesses as foot traffic is expected to surge during the holiday.

The city is preparing for a variety of National Day attractions, including laser shows at Al Majaz Waterfront and traditional cultural performances in heritage districts.

Officials encouraged residents to take advantage of the free-parking window while still adhering to traffic guidelines to ensure safety.

Residents across the UAE expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that free parking has become a welcomed tradition during major public holidays.

Many citizens said the announcement helps reduce the financial burden on families who plan to attend multiple events across the emirates.

Others said the decision reflects the government’s consistent approach to enhancing public convenience and supporting community engagement.

Local businesses, particularly restaurants, shopping centres, and entertainment venues, also expect a boost in activity during the free-parking period.

Analysts predict that the policy will contribute to increased domestic tourism, as residents are more encouraged to travel to key cultural and leisure destinations without worrying about parking fees.

The National Day holiday, celebrated annually on December 2, marks the historic unification of the Emirates in 1971.

This year’s celebrations are expected to be among the largest yet, featuring nationwide fireworks, military displays, cultural exhibitions, and family-friendly activities.

The free-parking announcement is one of several service adjustments implemented to support the large numbers of people expected to move between events.

Authorities across the UAE reminded the public to drive safely, respect designated no-parking areas, and avoid blocking emergency routes.

Municipalities said that inspection teams will continue monitoring streets to ensure that vehicles are parked properly, even during the free-parking period.

Violations such as double-parking or blocking pedestrian pathways will still result in fines.

As the UAE gears up for its National Day celebrations, the free-parking initiative is expected to play a significant role in enhancing the holiday experience for millions of residents and visitors.

With expanded mobility, eased transportation costs, and a festival-ready atmosphere, the country is preparing for a vibrant and memorable national celebration
