Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the implementation of over 70 rapid traffic solutions throughout the emirate since the beginning of 2025. These solutions are part of a comprehensive plan to improve traffic flow on Dubai's road network, reduce congestion, improve the quality of life for residents and road users, and increase the efficiency of the emirate's road infrastructure.
The RTA told Emirates Today that these solutions and traffic improvements have resulted in tangible positive results, such as shorter travel times at several key locations.
Travel time savings ranged from 20% to 40%, depending on the nature and scope of the project.
This demonstrates the effectiveness of the RTA's rapid response measures in achieving significant results in short periods of time, which has contributed to increasing traffic network efficiency and improving traffic flow and mobility throughout Dubai.
In particular, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported that the total number of rapid traffic solutions expected to be implemented this year exceeds 70 locations across the emirate, as part of a comprehensive plan to improve traffic flow on the emirate's road network.
The RTA told Emirates Today that this year has seen the implementation of a number of improvements that are regarded as the most significant projects in terms of traffic impact.
These include the addition of a lane on Emirates Road towards Sharjah, which has helped to cut travel time by 25%.
Improvements included the Medical City exit, which has cut travel time by 20%.
In the Al Warqa area, the RTA improved entrances and exits, reducing travel time by 40%.
Rapid improvements were also made to Sheikh Zayed Road, including the development and improvement of the exit to Al Meydan Street, resulting in a 20% reduction in travel time.
Furthermore, the RTA completed surface improvements at the intersection of Al Wasl Road and Al Manara Street, which helped to reduce travel time by 25%.
Regarding the average time required to implement traffic solutions, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stated that the implementation time for rapid traffic solutions varies by location.
Some locations can be completed in a matter of days if the improvements are minor, while others may take several months, depending on the scope of work and the nature of the required solutions.
The impact of planned traffic solutions on existing infrastructure and utilities influences the implementation schedule, depending on the nature and size of each location.
The RTA's criteria for identifying locations requiring urgent traffic solutions are as follows:
it prioritizes sites using seven technical sources and criteria.
These include the severity of traffic congestion, performance indicators from traffic control centers, the importance of the location and the number of people affected, the location's impact on traffic safety, the frequency of public complaints and feedback, the presence of approved road projects in progress, and the cost and technical feasibility of implementation.
The RTA also selects these locations based on the complaints and suggestions system, traffic impact studies, field team visits, and smart electronic resources.
The authority emphasized that the rapid improvements it is implementing are immediate and effective solutions with a quick impact for addressing congestion in the short term.
These efforts, however, complement the strategic projects that the authority is implementing as part of its future plans, such as projects to develop main roads and mass transit networks, as well as the implementation of sustainable traffic policies that ensure long-term improvement.
