Emirates ID card and passport renewal wait times will be drastically reduced thanks to a new scheme introduced by the UAE government.

This new initiative by the UAE government, part of the "Simplifying Government Procedures" program, has seen the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, in cooperation with the Customs and Ports Security Department, launch a new package for senior citizens and people of determination.

This package, the "Appreciation Package," developed in partnership with the Ministry of Community Empowerment, aims to eliminate the need for in-person applications or procedures.

The Appreciation Package also facilitates the renewal of benefits for recipients of social support in the UAE.

It is worth noting that the second phase of the "Simplifying Government Procedures" program in the UAE aims to reduce unnecessary administrative procedures across all public services in the country.

The program is expected to monitor identity by tracking the expiry dates of passports and Emirates ID cards for eligible individuals. Any documents nearing expiry will be automatically renewed, printed, and delivered to the homes of registered users.

The project will be fully digital, reducing the number of steps required to renew Emirates ID cards and passports for participants from three to zero.

This program is the latest initiative within the UAE’s Year of the Community and aims to show appreciation for senior citizens and people of determination in the country.

During the Year of the Community 2025, several important new policies were implemented, including expanding consular services for Golden Visa holders, implementing a four-day work week for government employees, and Dubai Design Week, all of which were special events.

2026 will be the Year of the Family, and we expect to see the launch of several new laws, initiatives, and projects to promote this concept throughout the year.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Community Empowerment, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, along with the Customs and Ports Security Authority, launched a special package for citizens benefiting from the social support program, particularly senior citizens and people of determination. This comes as part of the second phase of the streamlined procedures program.

The program includes the automatic renewal of passports and ID cards, eliminating the need to submit applications. The passport and ID card will be delivered to the beneficiary's home, streamlining the process from three steps to zero. This program underscores its importance as a gesture of appreciation and respect for individuals who have contributed to serving the community.
