Abu Dhabi introduces simplified licensing for minor home constructions.
In a move aimed at simplifying the construction approval process, the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has announced new streamlined procedures. These measures are designed to enable contractors to directly obtain licenses for minor construction works within homes, villas, and retreats across the emirate.
The scope of work covered includes tasks such as adding small concrete or metal structures, expansions not exceeding 25 square meters, non-structural interior and exterior modifications, interior maintenance and finishing projects, as well as constructing swimming pools, canopies, sunshades, and modifying external fences.
Safety Standards
Abdullah Mohammed Al-Balooshi, Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Infrastructure Sector at the department, stated: “These new procedures empower residents to enhance their homes while adhering to top safety and quality standards. This initiative reduces both costs and time associated with implementing modifications. Additionally, it supports the construction sector by ensuring compliance with clear and defined guidelines.”
This development follows the launch of 'Binaa,' a digital platform dedicated to issuing building permits equipped with artificial intelligence technology. The initiative is part of Abu Dhabi's broader goals to establish itself as a global model for living standards and efficient government services.
