Saturday morning brought a sigh of relief to many travelers as Sharjah Airport began to gradually resume flight operations. The airport had faced significant disruptions due to severe weather conditions that swept across the UAE, affecting air traffic for several hours.

Dense fog and strong winds were the main culprits, leading to the cancellation of six flights and the diversion or rescheduling of 21 others to various alternative airports. These measures, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), were crucial to maintaining the safety of both passengers and flight crews under such unpredictable weather conditions.

Operations at the airport are now back in motion. Specialized teams are hard at work to address delays and reorganize flight schedules. These efforts are being carried out in close collaboration with airlines to ensure a smooth transition back to normalcy. Officials have stated that they will keep a close watch on weather developments and implement necessary measures in accordance with approved safety standards.

Passengers are advised to stay updated on their travel plans. Checking flight statuses through the airport’s official website, airline apps, or directly contacting their carriers is recommended, as weather-related changes might still occur.

Weather Forecast Calls for Continued Vigilance

The disruptions at Sharjah Airport coincided with warnings from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), which forecasted unstable weather conditions across parts of the UAE. From February 8 to February 11, the forecast includes humid mornings, partly cloudy skies, and potential rainfall. These conditions are expected to persist over several days.

The NCM indicated that morning humidity and mist could affect visibility, particularly in coastal, western, and internal areas. Cloud cover might increase, with a chance of rain over islands and some coastal, northern, and eastern regions, especially on Saturday night, Sunday, and Tuesday. Temperatures are anticipated to rise through Monday, then ease slightly by Tuesday in coastal and western areas.

Winds are forecasted to be generally light to moderate but could intensify and change direction at times. Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf might vary, ranging from slight to moderate but becoming rough in northern areas during periods of stronger winds.

The NCM has urged residents to exercise caution during misty weather conditions and has advised those at sea to remain alert when winds are stronger.
