Sharjah launches "Scientific Residency" to foster youth involvement in impactful research.

Under the theme "Research with Impact," the Quarter Century Center for Science and Technology, part of the Quarter Century Foundation for Leaders and Innovators in Sharjah, has launched the inaugural edition of its "Scientific Residency" program.

The program offers a unique national experience that embodies the steadfast approach and strategic vision of the center. It aims to refine young talents by empowering them to use scientific research methodologies to transform knowledge into community-serving achievements, thereby enhancing sustainability.

The initiative, involving 60 students from various emirates across the UAE, reflects Sharjah's vision of fostering a science-driven society. It underscores scientific research as an essential pillar for anticipating future developments. The program creates an exceptional platform bringing together academics and experts while forging strategic partnerships with national universities and research institutions.

The first phase kicked off with a meeting featuring Dr. Hussein Mohammed Al Awadi, Director of the Center for Advanced Materials Research at the University of Sharjah. He shared key milestones from his rich academic journey with students, exemplifying a national model in both research endeavors and innovation initiatives.

This initial stage focuses on imparting specialized skills to participating students through a comprehensive educational journey that enriches their minds and provides them with modern scientific tools. Key skills taught include understanding research literature, various methods of scientific writing, familiarization with ethical standards in research, design thinking training, and enhancing abilities to formulate hypotheses and analyze them.

Before this first edition was introduced, a foundational phase was conducted by the Quarter Century Center for Science and Technology. This phase included three foundation members who embarked on their research journey since last year. They continued their work with support from the center in collaboration with leading national universities such as the University of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah, and Khalifa University. These efforts resulted in notable achievements: Saif Karam won first place in special awards category by American Chemical Society at ISEF 2025; Saif Al Zarouni earned top ranks in Emirates Young Scientist Competition 2025; while Mustafa Jamal Al Jasmi progresses an innovative chemistry project.
