Saudi Arabia detains over 12,100 for residency and labour violations in recent crackdown.

Saudi Arabia has detained over 12,100 individuals in the past week as part of its initiative to curb residency, labour, and security violations within the kingdom.

The inspection operations, which took place from May 22 to May 28 across all regions, aimed at ensuring compliance with residency, work, and border security regulations. These efforts led to the recording of 12,129 violations, broken down into:

  • 7,127 residency breaches
  • 3,441 border security violations
  • 1,561 labour law infringements

Saudi Residency, Labour, and Security Arrests

A total of 1,197 individuals were apprehended while attempting to illegally cross into Saudi Arabia, comprising 34% Yemenis, 63% Ethiopians, and 3% from other nationalities.

Authorities arrested 90 people for attempting to illegally exit the Kingdom.

Additionally, 18 individuals involved in the transportation, sheltering, and employment of violators were detained.

At present, 19,238 expatriates, including 17,930 men and 1,308 women, are undergoing procedures related to regulation enforcement.

A total of 14,065 individuals detained for law violations were instructed to contact their respective embassies or consulates for proper travel documentation. Meanwhile, 15,336 have been directed to arrange their departure bookings, and 11,094 have been repatriated.

The Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning against facilitating the illegal entry of individuals into the Kingdom. This includes transporting them, providing shelter, or rendering any form of assistance. Violators may face severe penalties, including up to 15 years in prison, fines up to SR1 million ($267,000), and confiscation of vehicles or properties used in such activities.

The ministry emphasizes that these actions are considered major crimes and urges citizens to report any violations. Residents in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern regions can call 911, while those in other areas should contact 999 or 996.
