The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) declared the Red and Green lines of the Riyadh Metro would open on December 15, 2024.
Red and Green Lines Change Travel in the Saudi Arabia Capital
These fresh lines mark yet another major turning point in the continuous improvement of Riyadh's public transportation infrastructure, therefore moving the city closer to finish its whole metro system. Five out of six metro lines are now operational with this launch, therefore revolutionizing urban travel in the Saudi capital.
Officially the King Abdullah Road Line, the 25.1-kilometer Red Line links the eastern and western sections of the city. With 15 stations total-including important stops like the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre-this path starts at King Fahd Sports City and finishes at King Saud University.
Three different metro lines cross the Red Line to give travelers easy connections. It joins at the STC Station with the Blue Line; the Green Line crosses at the Ministry of Education Station. Furthermore at Al Hamra Station, the Red Line links with the Purple Line. These exchanges let travellers easily negotiate Riyadh's expanding metro system, therefore improving access and convenience.
13.3 kilometers long, the Green Line-also known as the King Abdulaziz Road Line-offers necessary connections between King Abdullah Road, the Ministry of Education, and the National Museum. It consists of twelve stations covering important government buildings including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Defense. Apart from government buildings, the line also provides several residential, business, and service venues.
Two Green Line stations, at the National Museum and the Ministry of Finance, will not open until much later, though. Like the Red Line, the Green Line crosses with the Red Line at the Ministry of Education Station and the Blue Line at the National Museum Station, therefore providing links to other lines.
Future Expansions and Accessibility
Serving both commuters and guests, the Red and Green lines run everyday from 6:00 a.m. until midnight. With its introduction, the Riyadh Metro system advances significantly, therefore making public transportation a more practical and effective choice for citizens.
The Orange Line, which runs Madinah Road and is expected to open on January 5, 2025, is the next phase of growth for the metro network. The Riyadh Metro system will be completely operational once the Orange Line starts running, providing the city with a thorough and linked transportation system.
