Saudi Arabia begins its academic year by investing $986M in infrastructure projects and introducing a modern curriculum focusing on AI, cybersecurity, tourism among other subjects as part of Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia has announced comprehensive preparations for the 1447–1448 AH academic year, integrating significant infrastructure investments with a refreshed curriculum to align student skills with Vision 2030 goals.
The Ministry of Education is implementing 75 new construction projects valued at SR920 million ($245 million), alongside maintenance across 15,000 school buildings and servicing 884,000 air conditioning units at a cost exceeding SR2 billion ($533 million).
Moreover, over 1,400 educational facilities have been rehabilitated with restoration efforts amounting to SR782 million ($208 million).
Start of the Saudi School Year
Across Saudi Arabia, regional education departments are preparing to welcome millions of students. Riyadh alone anticipates more than 2.84 million students in its 6,873 schools, while readiness plans are also complete in regions such as the Eastern Province, Aseer, Qassim, Jazan, Najran, and Tabuk.
Simultaneously, the National Curriculum Centre has launched updated subjects including:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Cybersecurity
- Tourism and Hospitality
- Fashion
- Art and Design
- First Aid
The expansion of Chinese and English language programs complements new teacher guides for Quran studies and early childhood education.
This revitalized curriculum emphasizes critical thinking along with innovation and technology integration while upholding national and humanitarian values.
The curricula were developed collaboratively with government ministries and private sectors by incorporating international content to ensure swift textbook distribution.
This synchronized effort in enhancing infrastructure alongside modernizing the curriculum represents Saudi Arabia’s initiative to establish a safe yet stimulating learning environment. It aims at equipping the young generation with competencies essential for thriving in future industries-advancing towards achieving Vision 2030 ambitions.
