The Ministry of Interior declared on Thursday the extension of a 50% reduction in the grace period for paying traffic fines, for extra six months.

Reportedly based on instructions from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, this extension follows After the prior grace period expired on October 18, 2024, the new date for profiting from this decrease is now April 18, 2025.

Announced on April 18, 2024, the previous grace period covered all violations prior to that date and let offenders pay their traffic fines half their original amount. The lowered payment option gave people choice so they might pay either in full or separately for every infringement. It was meant to relieve financial burden on GCC nationals, visitors, expats, and residents. All outstanding traffic fines required to be paid within the six-month window-which previously stretched from April 18 to October 18, 2024-qualification for the reduction.

Targeting a wide spectrum of road users by lowering penalties on traffic offenses accumulated before the start of the reduction period, the project was intended as a major relief measure. This action emphasizes the government's attention on reducing the financial load on Kingdom residents as well as visitors.

The General Directorate of Traffic claims that one may pay the fines with the Efaa platform and the SADAD payment method. Officials also advised the public to stay away from bogus links claiming to pay for traffic fines, phone calls, or websites posing payment options. Only official government channels will handle the fines and reduction, therefore guaranteeing that road users are not mislead by frauds.

The royal edict does, however, state that some major transgressions will make offenders unfit for the discount. Among these infractions are drifting, driving under the influence of narcotics or illegal substances, breaking the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on highways with a limit of 120km/h, and violating the limit by more than 30 km/h on roads with a limit of 140km/h. Offers incurring any one of these infractions during the grace period will not be eligible for the 50 percent discount.

The Ministry of Interior stressed in its release the need of observing traffic rules to preserve road safety. The ministry wants to lower road accidents and guarantee the safety of all road users throughout the Kingdom by motivating adherence with traffic rules. This expansion shows the dedication of the leadership to uphold public safety and offers a financial relief to people with exceptional traffic offenses.

The longer grace period also shows a government's ongoing attempt to strike a compromise between rigorous traffic law enforcement and policies providing public financial relief. Motorists who have accumulated fines have another chance to pay their debts at a discounted rate with the royal directive in place until April 2025 providing they follow traffic rules and avoid major offences.
