Etihad Airways announced the cancellation of flights to and from Beirut this coming Tuesday September 24 owing to unfolding events in the region.

Canceled flights include EY535 from Abu Dhabi to Beirut and the return leg EY538 from Beirut back to Abu Dhabi. The carrier is supporting passengers who had booked the aforementioned flights to rebook or make changes to their travel plans accordingly.

The airline maintained that it "continues to monitor the developing situation in the region extremely closely and is in close contact with the relevant authorities so as to keep them informed about the latest developments" Safety of passengers, in the case of Etihad, always tops the agenda, and at this juncture, they declared "We would never operate a flight unless we are satisfied that it is safe to do so.

Etihad Airways has offered more details to customers seeking additional information in relation to their travel. They can access its contact center on +971 600 555 666, and UAE customers are able to log into the official website via etihad.com. Information is likewise available through the Etihad mobile app.

This development comes in the wake of a broader explanation by UAE-based airlines, which said they are closely following instructions given by respective national authorities. These instructions specifically pertain to restrictions on carrying certain devices such as pagers and walkie-talkies aboard flights. The explanation became necessary in light of an incident in the region involving Hezbollah members. The members were said to have carried hand-held radios, which later exploded resulting in several casualties, including both deaths and injuries.

This has equally been confirmed by representatives of flydubai, another airline based in the UAE: "Like other regional airlines, flydubai complies with all instructions and advisories issued by local authorities. In so doing, this airline will always operate in total conformity with safety and security guidelines, particularly where the aerospace is shared in times of high regional tensions.

In turn, Etihad Airways has issued a statement and commented that they keep operating their scheduled flights to/from Beirut, while noting that the mentioned above services have been canceled on September 24. The airline has repeated once more the commitment to safety, noting that "Etihad Airways continuously monitors global security situations on a minute-by-minute basis.". They then reassured passengers in their statement that safety would still be the number one priority of the airline, and that it would not fly any aircraft if there was a question about the security en route to and at a destination.

The cancellation by Etihad Airways of select flights to and from Beirut is as a precautionary measure in light of volatile regional developments. In fact, the airline-and other airlines in the UAE-continuously monitor events alongside full adherence to all local and international safety-related advisories. The passengers whose flights have been axed are being supported in rebooking their travel, while safety remains Etihad Airways' number one priority-there is continuous dialogue with the authorities as part of an effective response to whatever risk may arise.
