First THAAD Missile Defense Unit Commissioned by Saudi Air Defense

The first THAAD missile system unit was launched by Saudi Arabia's Royal Air Defense Force, strengthening the Kingdom's defense capabilities.

JEDDAH According to the Ministry of Defense, at a high-profile ceremony held at the Air Defense Forces Institute in Jeddah, the Saudi Royal Air Defense Force officially unveiled the first Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system unit.

After completing extensive system testing, assessments, and field training for personnel in the Kingdom, the unit was able to successfully attain commissioning status.

In order to demonstrate the unit's operational readiness, Lieutenant General Mazyad Al-Amro, Commander of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces, attended the ceremony and ceremoniously gave the unit's flag to the commander of the 1st Air Defense Group.

The first THAAD battery deployment is a crucial component of a larger defense program aimed at strengthening the Kingdom's air defense capabilities and protecting vital strategic assets and national interests.

For the first and second THAAD units, Air Defense Forces soldiers received specialized training at Fort Bliss in Texas, USA, prior to this.
