Dubai unveils "House of Future" competition with Dh1-million prizes

The second edition of the ‘House of the Future’ competition, aimed at finding innovative and adaptable housing designs for the UAE, has been officially launched.

Announced on Saturday by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation and the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program, the competition invites architects and designers all around to send their ideas for future dwellings that satisfy particular criteria. Designs that honor the rich cultural legacy of the UAE and allow for the use of sustainable materials and resistance against environmental change are sought for the competition.

Coordinated in cooperation with Buildner, the competition provides precise guidelines for the designs. Entries have to be scalable, have at least three bedrooms, and be built under Dh800,000 budget. The emphasis is on building houses that are not just aesthetically pleasing but also futuristic practical. This is in line with UAE's housing sector objective of combining environmental sustainability with modernism with legacy. The requirements of the competition also stress the significance of using sustainable building materials and the capacity to change with the needs of the people.

The top designers compete for big rewards; the winner gets Dh500,000, the runner-up Dh200,000, and the second runner-up Dh100,000, Apart from these awards, there is a separate category for the most creative design using sustainable materials with Dh200,000 reward. This award motivates designers to consider imaginatively how to lower the environmental effect of homes and emphasizes the growing relevance of sustainability in construction.
