Dubai Traffic Court fines driver Dh100,000 for driving under the influence of drugs
Following a series of significant traffic offenses and drug crimes, a driver was sentenced to two years in prison and a Dh100,000 fine by the Dubai Traffic Court.
The accused was convicted of using psychotropic medications, driving under the influence of narcotics, and operating an uninsured car on a public road with an expired license. The court also ordered that his driver's license be suspended for one year, and that he be deported after serving his prison sentence.
The authorities have prohibited him from moving or depositing any money to anyone, either directly or via another person, for two years after the completion of his term, unless he obtains approval from the UAE Central Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior.
Counselor Salah Boufarousha Al Falasi, First Attorney General and Head of the Traffic Prosecution, urged all drivers to avoid driving under the influence of narcotics and to follow traffic laws and regulations to protect the safety of all road users in Dubai.
The UAE has a stringent law against drivers found driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Their driver's licenses will be suspended for one year, beginning on the day of the verdict, while the court determines the fine and/or prison term.
Driving a car with an expired driver's license or registration can result in a Dh500 punishment in the UAE. The perpetrator may receive four black points for the infringement, and the car may also be impounded. Driving without insurance in the UAE entails a Dh500 fine and four black points on your license. The authorities can even seize the car for seven days.
