Targeting the evening peak hours between 5:30 and 8:00 pm, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has declared new truck traffic limits along Emirates Road.

Effective from January 1, 2025, the limitations will apply to the part of Emirates Road running between Al Awir Street and Sharjah. This project fits within a larger campaign to control traffic, ease congestion, and improve road safety all throughout Dubai.

The new law reflects the RTA's recent years' comparable steps done in line with The RTA widened its prohibition on truck travel on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in April 2024 to cover morning and evening peak times. Now with the extension of Emirates Road, the RTA is focusing on important arterial routes to enhance traffic conditions during the most busy times of day.

The main objective of the limitation is to reduce heavy truck traffic during peak congestion therefore increasing the efficiency of route use for private automobiles. The RTA seeks to minimize the overlap between trucks and smaller cars, a significant source of traffic accidents especially in crowded cities. The limitations are supposed to help to improve traffic flow, lower road accidents, and raise road capacity generally during peak usage.

Dubai already boasts a thorough mechanism in place to control truck traffic on several highways. For example, trucks are already forbidden on main routes including Al Ittihad and Meydan Streets. Furthermore banned everyday from 6 am to 10 pm are Sheikh Zayed Road and other roads close to Sharjah, including Al Mizhar, Al Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena. The additional traffic control measures on Emirates Road will provide still another level of control to assist in the general development of the city.

Long-standing restrictions have applied to medium-congestion metropolitan areas like Airport, Oman, and Damascus Streets during designated peak hours, These forbid vehicle travel from 6:30 to 8:30 am, from 1 to 3 pm, and from 5:30 to 8 pm, These rules seek to guarantee that trucks do not aggravate already heavy traffic conditions even more.

Working together with Dubai Police, the RTA has guaranteed seamless application of these new limits. Acting assistant commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei clarified that the decision to forbid the truck movement on Emirates Road was based on thorough research that balanced safety issues with the transportation requirements of the region, The RTA is helping the police to notify owners of transportation companies and truck drivers on the new limitations. They underlined the need of following the new schedules in order to avoid fines.

Dubai Police noted 792 infractions this year alone on non-compliance with truck movement limits. Considered as a proactive measure to enhance traffic efficiency and road safety, the new rules on Emirates Road < To minimize interruptions to logistical operations and preserve the flow of products and services, the authorities expect that truck drivers and transportation businesses would fully participate with the project.

Further stressing that the truck ban would assist transfer truck traffic to other routes, hence relieving congestion on Emirates Road, Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, said The RTA will set directional and informational signs at strategic locations, such the start and finish of the limited area, thereby guaranteeing seamless application of the restriction, Media announcements, social media efforts, multilingual radio broadcasts will also let the people know about the new limitations.

In line with Dubai's larger objectives of enhancing transportation infrastructure and road safety, this project is yet another step toward building a safer, more efficient traffic environment in the city.
