Dubai announces Expansion of Roads for 4 neighborhoods, Cuts Travel Time by 80%
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a major road network expansion aimed at significantly reducing travel times for residents of four key neighborhoods: Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3.
Promising to cut travel times by up to 80% for residents in four important areas, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed a major project aiming at expanding the road network of the city according to Khaleejtimes news.
The project also aims to raise road capacity by 50–80%, therefore proving the city's will to improve connection and mobility for its expanding population. Once finished, the initiative will help almost 400,000 people enhance their daily commutes and general quality of life.
In Nadd Hessa, the RTA is adding a new entry and exit point linked to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. Designed to handle up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, this two-lane road will benefit localities including Nadd Hessa, Warsan 4, Hessa Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis—collectively home more than 300,000 people. From the service road running parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, the project spans It comprises a roundabout giving entrance to Dubai Silicon Oasis as well as Nadd Hessa. A signalized junction at Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will drastically minimize travel time in the area, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of RTA's Board, from 138 seconds to just 37 seconds.
The project will also help Al Awir 1 since a 7.5-kilometer road connecting the neighborhood to Emirates Road is being built, Double road capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour, this new path will offer a direct link for the 50,000 people living in the vicinity. The better access points will simplify traffic flow and increase connectivity, therefore addressing long-standing issues of local congestion.
Improvements under the bigger Hessa Street Development Project—which will serve around 75,000 residents—are being done in Al Barsha South. Improvements include enlarging a 1, 114-meter length of Hessa Street by two lanes, adding a third left-turn lane at the junction of Hessa Street and Al Barsha South, and so increasing the total number of lanes in all directions. These enhancements would greatly lower signal wait times from four minutes to only one minute by increasing traffic capacity from 6,000 to 9,000 cars per hour, The modifications seek to accommodate the rising population of the area and provide a more efficient travel experience for inhabitants.
Wadi Al Safa 3 will get several enhancements meant to increase its connectivity. The project comprises building 4 kilometers of internal roads and adding new access points from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, especially for vehicles coming from Dubai-Al Ain Road. These improvements are supposed to shorten travel times from 10 minutes to just two and cut travel lengths by 10 kilometers, therefore making everyday journeys much more handy for inhabitants.
To improve access and traffic flow, the RTA is also working on an other project at Al Warqa. While extending the internal road network by 8 kilometers, this project will add a new entry and departure point linked to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Once finished, the effort will increase road capacity by 5,000 cars per hour, cut travel times by 80% (from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes), and shorten travel distances from 5.7 kilometers to 1.5 kilometers. The current roundabouts in the region will be upgraded to signal-operated intersections, therefore boosting the capacity of Al Warqa 1 Street by thirty%. Inside roads in Al Warqa 3 and Al Warqa 4 will also be upgraded, and a 16-kilometer cycling track will be constructed to link Al Warqa with surrounding riding paths.
