Dubai Announces Completion of Al Khail Road Project, 5 new Bridges and Wider Roads
The Al Khail Road Development Project, a significant infrastructure initiative by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been fully completed, This project crucial to enhancing the city’s road network, involved the construction of five new bridges totaling 3,300 meters in length and the widening of roads along a 6,820-meter stretch.
These upgrades were implemented at seven critical locations along Al Khail Road, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
Part of a larger initiative to improve parallel roads supporting Dubai's main highways, including Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road, the Al Khail Road project Running from Business Bay Crossing to its connection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Khail Road itself is a major artery for the city. There are five lanes in each direction on the route; certain areas have been extended to six lanes to handle the rising traffic load, The project greatly increases traffic flow and lowers congestion across Dubai by bettering connectivity between important routes and metropolitan districts.
For an expected 1.5 million road users, the project's major success is the significant drop in travel time—by up to 30 percent. The project has cleared major interchanges' bottlenecks and enhanced traffic capacity at important crossroads, therefore permitting better flow along Al Khail Road. The road can now manage around 19,600 vehicles per hour, a significant improvement for relieving traffic congestion and sustaining the city's rising transportation demands given the enhanced capacity.
Among the major improvements are road extensions and the building of numerous important bridges, Between Oud Metha Street and Financial Centre Street, Zabeel built a 700-meter three-lane bridge. Capable of 4,800 vehicles per hour, this bridge helps traffic flow from Zabeel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali. Likewise, in Meydan, a 610-meter two-lane bridge with capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour was built between Al Meydan Road and Ras Al Khor Road, linking Meydan Street to Al Khail Road toward Deira. Apart from the bridge, the area underwent more than 1,550 meters of surface road development to enhance traffic flow toward Ras Al Khor Street.
Accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour, a 650-meter two-lane bridge was built at Al Quoz 1 to link Meydan Street with Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali, Over 2,170 meters, the project also featured surface road improvements enhancing linkages to Al Waha Street and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street. Built to manage traffic between Al Meydan Road and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, a 640-meter bridge in Ghadeer Al Tair adds extra capacity for 3,200 vehicles per hour and enhances connectivity towards Deira, Another significant development was in Jumeirah Village Circle, where a 700-meter two-lane bridge with 3,200 vehicle capacity was built to link Al Khail Road with Hessa Street. 900 meters of surface road upgrades improved the road infrastructure surrounding Jumeirah Village Circle, therefore facilitating better traffic flow toward Deira.
Apart from these bridges, the project also comprised various road-widening projects meant to enhance the general traffic conditions in important areas. A 600-meter road extension included an additional lane near Al Jaddaf, therefore boosting the road's capacity by 2,000 vehicles every hour. This fix cleared traffic between Financial Centre Street and Oud Metha Street. In Business Bay, Al Khail Road now has a 435-meter lane to guarantee better traffic flow from Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali and increase access to the area.
Completing the Al Khail Road Development Project is a major turning point in Dubai's continuous efforts to improve its road system, By means of a more effective transportation system for both citizens and tourists, these developments will help the city to flourish long-term and relieve traffic congestion and provide safer and faster travel.
