Abu Dhabi Police Warns Drivers: Avoid Shoulder Parking Near Darb Gates — Fines Up to AED 1000

Abu Dhabi Police’s Traffic and Patrols Directorate has urged motorists to strictly avoid stopping on road shoulders unless it’s an emergency — particularly around Darb toll gates. The warning comes after traffic violations were recorded by advanced smart monitoring systems.
Authorities noted that some drivers were seen stopping unnecessarily on the shoulder, waiting for toll-free hours. This behavior poses safety risks and disrupts the flow of traffic.
The Directorate also observed other dangerous violations, such as sudden lane swerving, obstructing traffic, and unauthorized entry into public bus lanes or parking areas.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to traffic laws and avoid infractions. Both improper parking and obstructing traffic carry a fine of AED 500. Sudden swerving is classified as a serious offense, punishable by a AED 1,000 fine and 4 traffic points. Unauthorized use of bus-only lanes or stops incurs a fine of AED 400, as outlined in Ministerial Resolution No. (178) of 2017.
Abu Dhabi Police confirmed that these violations were detected through smart systems, and legal action will be taken against offenders to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow across the emirate.
