A plan to expand the use of electronic identity in the UAE
According to confirmation from the federal authority for identity, citizenship, customs, and port security, it uses a phased application approach for digital transformation. This approach involves transforming the simplest services first, which guarantees a positive and quick impact on the customer experience, and then moving on to the most complex services to ensure a thorough and deliberate transformation.
The next stage is focused on achieving the remaining integration through the development of an integrated package of systems and technologies related to electronic identity services and biometric fingerprints, in order to improve the experience of customers in various sectors of the state, including government agencies, banks, telecommunications companies, hotels, insurance, healthcare, and other sectors that require accurate and reliable identification processes for customers," the authority stated in a written response to the board member Dr. Adnan Hamad Al Hammadi's question about enhancing the adoption of electronic identity to facilitate procedures".
Use of electronic identity
As it depends on controlled risk management and a clear methodology that ensures compliance with all laws and regulations, including data protection to enhance confidence and sustainability of services provided to citizens, residents, and visitors, the authority went on to say: "This package applies advanced technical and procedural personal identification standards, which enables the authority to expand the use of electronic identity to cover all contemporary requirements."
In order to make these identification methods more options that support current means and raise security levels, she added, the authority, in collaboration with several partners, has developed and tested advanced biometric identification systems over the past period. These systems are based on facial fingerprints and other technologies supported by artificial intelligence, rather than a traditional ID card.
Using advanced technologies
The services mentioned in the member's question will be the top priority in the first stage of transforming services for the new package, she disclosed, revealing that these systems are currently being planned to be launched comprehensively in various sectors at the state level within a period of approximately one year. We also hope to attract the most prominent partners from all sectors to adopt these advanced technologies within the authority's systems because we firmly believe that it is crucial to facilitate the journey of customers from citizens, residents, and visitors in order to strengthen the UAE's position as a global leader in the field of electronic identity.
