In an official announcement made this evening, it has been confirmed that the crescent moon of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH has been sighted. Accordingly, tomorrow-Wednesday, May 28, 2025-will be the first day of this sacred Islamic month, which includes the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid al-Adha.
Authorities responsible for moon sighting, including official and astronomical bodies, confirmed the sighting of the crescent on Tuesday evening in several locations. This affirms that Wednesday marks the beginning of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446, launching the countdown to the days of Hajj, the Day of Arafah, and Eid al-Adha, which is expected to fall on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Dhu al-Hijjah is one of the most revered months in the Islamic lunar calendar, eagerly awaited by Muslims around the world for its spiritual significance. Its days are rich with religious merit, particularly the Day of Arafah, observed one day before Eid al-Adha, and widely regarded as one of the holiest days in Islam.
With the start of Dhu al-Hijjah officially declared, preparations are now underway across the Muslim world for this year’s Hajj season. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its readiness to welcome pilgrims from across the globe, promising a safe and well-organized pilgrimage.
It is worth noting that the confirmation of the moon sighting came after thorough observations carried out on Tuesday evening, in coordination between religious committees and astronomical observatories, which verified that the crescent met all necessary criteria for visibility.
