A new road in Dubai is set to significantly cut journey times in the Al Warqa neighborhood, bringing travel duration down from 20 minutes to under four.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to open a new entry and exit point to Al Warqa directly connecting to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in early June 2025. This initiative aims to facilitate smoother access to and from the neighborhood.

Once completed, this project is expected to increase road capacity by 5,000 vehicles per hour, slash travel time by 80 percent-reducing it from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes-and shorten trip distances from 5.7 km to 1.5 km.

Traffic Improvements in Al Warqa

The RTA has also completed enhancements on Street 13 in Al Warqa 1, benefiting both residents and schoolgoers.

These changes are part of a larger internal road development initiative spanning approximately 8 km, designed to improve traffic flow and the overall efficiency of the local road network, ultimately enhancing daily mobility and the quality of life for residents.

The RTA remains committed to developing an integrated infrastructure network that includes roads, lighting, and stormwater drainage systems within residential areas, aligning with Dubai’s urban growth and population needs.

This reflects the RTA's dedication to meeting residents’ aspirations for a modern urban environment that enhances quality of life, promotes sustainable mobility, and ensures a high standard of comfort and well-being.

These efforts align with Dubai’s vision of becoming a smart, prosperous city that caters to the evolving requirements of its residents while prioritizing their happiness and stability.

Development plans in Al Warqa also include upgrades to the internal road networks in Al Warqa 3 and 4 in Dubai.

The upcoming upgrades will involve road paving, the construction of pedestrian walkways, pavements, and parking spaces, as well as the implementation of cycling tracks totaling over 23 km in length.

The objective is to improve connectivity with surrounding cycling tracks and encourage alternative, sustainable modes of transport.

The next phase of development will include capacity improvements in Al Warqa 1, focusing on converting existing roundabouts into signalized junctions equipped with smart traffic lights, which is expected to enhance traffic flow by up to 30 percent. These upgrades are slated for completion by the end of this year.

In recent months, the RTA has also undertaken various internal road development projects in Al Warqa, including traffic improvements around the School of Research Science in Al Warqa 4 and near GEMS Royal Dubai School.

This work involved constructing 150 additional parking spaces and establishing secure entry and exit points for these new parking areas.

These efforts have successfully reduced congestion and delays in school zones by approximately 35 to 50 percent.

The RTA has also finalized internal roads supporting the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment project in Al Warqa 4, which comprises 136 residential villas. Improvements included the installation of pedestrian walkways, pavements, vehicle access points, and an integrated lighting system, all aimed at enhancing road safety and mobility for residents.

In promoting sustainable transport, a 7.4 km cycling track has also been created to encourage cycling as both a recreational activity and a practical first-and-last-mile transport option.

Earlier this year, the RTA held an interactive session with residents and frequent visitors of Al Warqa to discuss key initiatives and upcoming development projects in the area. This session also provided a platform for public feedback regarding infrastructure and road networks, showcasing the RTA’s commitment to listening to community input and transforming it into actionable solutions.

This engagement with the Al Warqa community was instrumental in shaping a series of development initiatives that have translated into meaningful improvements, directly enhancing traffic flow and addressing both current and future community needs.
