Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced on Wednesday morning that Kuwait International Airport was targeted by drone attacks, resulting in a large fire inside the airport, amid escalating regional tensions and ongoing military developments affecting critical infrastructure.
Official spokesperson Abdullah Al Rajhi confirmed that the airport was subjected to hostile drone strikes carried out by Iran and armed groups it supports, noting that the attacks focused on sensitive and strategic facilities within the airport premises.
According to statements reported by the Kuwait News Agency, the strikes specifically targeted fuel storage tanks belonging to the Kuwait Aviation Fueling Company, which led to a major fire outbreak and posed a significant threat to airport operations.
Emergency response teams immediately intervened, deploying rapid containment measures to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other operational zones, ensuring the protection of infrastructure and continuity of services.
Initial reports confirmed that the damage was limited to material losses only, with no human casualties recorded among workers or personnel present at the site, reflecting the effectiveness of emergency preparedness plans.
These developments come at a critical time for the region, where rising tensions are increasing concerns over the safety of civil aviation and the stability of supply chains, prompting authorities to heighten readiness levels.
The incident highlights the importance of continuous coordination between relevant authorities to safeguard vital facilities, especially airports that serve as key hubs for economic and commercial activity under challenging regional conditions.
