French President Emmanuel Macron highlights Iraq’s stability as crucial to Middle East peace, planning a visit there by year-end amid efforts to strengthen ties.

French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized that Iraq's stability is pivotal for the broader stability of the Middle East, reaffirming his country's steadfast support for Baghdad's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speaking in remarks reported by Iraqi media, Macron stated, "We are staunch supporters of Iraq’s sovereignty, as its stability and respect for its borders are crucial for regional peace."

Macron also revealed plans to visit Iraq before the end of this year, recalling his previous trip to Baghdad in August 2021 aimed at bolstering political and economic cooperation between France and Iraq.

In another development, Macron welcomed a recent agreement between the current Syrian authorities and the "Syrian Democratic Forces," describing it as "a very significant step forward." He expressed appreciation for Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa's inclusive approach to all components of civil society and his efforts to engage in dialogue with diverse parties. Highlighting the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces in combating terrorist groups, Macron noted that building on this agreement could aid in reinforcing Syria’s territorial unity and achieving a comprehensive political settlement.

These statements reflect Paris' ongoing commitment to expanding its influence in the region, particularly concerning security and economic matters. France is an active participant in the international coalition against terrorism and supports initiatives for rebuilding Iraq’s infrastructure and energy sector.

Moreover, France stands out as one of Baghdad's key European partners across defense, cultural, and educational sectors. This partnership aligns with French policy aiming to foster regional balance and stability through strategic collaboration. (Agencies)
