Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has denied circulating reports on social media platforms and some media outlets claiming that a maritime incident occurred near Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, emphasizing that the widely shared information about the location of the incident is inaccurate.

In an official statement, the ministry confirmed that the reported event did not take place within Kuwait’s territorial waters, explaining that the incident occurred outside the country’s maritime boundaries at a distance of no less than 60 kilometers from Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port.

The ministry’s clarification comes as part of the government’s efforts to ensure transparency and prevent the spread of misleading information, particularly during times when news and reports can spread rapidly across digital platforms and social media channels without proper verification.

Authorities urged citizens, residents, and media organizations to exercise caution and verify information before sharing or publishing news related to security matters or maritime incidents, stressing that official statements issued by relevant authorities remain the most reliable source of accurate information.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations authority had earlier reported that a tanker positioned off the coast of Kuwait experienced a significant explosion on its port side, which resulted in water entering the vessel.

According to the authority’s report, the ship’s captain observed a small boat leaving the area immediately after the explosion, which occurred approximately 56 kilometers southeast of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port in Kuwait.

The maritime authority also stated in a subsequent advisory that oil had begun leaking into the surrounding waters from one of the tanker’s cargo tanks, raising concerns about a possible environmental impact in the area if the spill is not contained promptly.

In addition, the report indicated that water had also seeped into the vessel following the explosion, potentially affecting its structural integrity and operational condition.

Despite the incident, the authority confirmed that all crew members on board the tanker are safe and accounted for, noting that no injuries were reported and that there were no indications of fires breaking out on the vessel after the explosion.

The incident continues to draw attention from maritime monitoring bodies as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion while ensuring the safety of navigation routes and protecting the marine environment in the region.
