His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah the Emir of the State of Kuwait affirmed that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries represents an indivisible and unified system stressing that any violation of the sovereignty of one GCC state must be regarded as a direct threat to the collective security of all member states the remarks came during a speech delivered by the Emir on the occasion of the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan in which he addressed the recent regional developments and the security challenges currently facing Kuwait amid the ongoing escalation in the region.
During his speech the Emir of Kuwait stated that the State of Kuwait had been subjected to what he described as a blatant attack by a neighboring Muslim country which Kuwait has long regarded as a friendly nation despite Kuwait’s firm commitment to maintaining neutrality and refraining from participating in any military actions directed against that country he explained that Kuwait had clearly and repeatedly informed that state through diplomatic channels that it would not allow its land airspace or territorial waters to be used for any military operations against it.
The Emir further noted that the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait’s airspace as well as its territories civilian facilities and critical infrastructure represent a clear violation of international norms and conventions and constitute a direct assault on the country’s sovereignty security and stability he added that these attacks have resulted in the deaths of twelve people since Tehran began launching strikes against Gulf countries following the American and Israeli attacks carried out against Iran.
His Highness emphasized that Kuwait is fully capable of overcoming the current challenges regardless of their scale noting that throughout its history Kuwait has passed through difficult periods and major crises yet the nation has consistently emerged stronger more resilient and more united he stressed that these experiences have reinforced the determination of the Kuwaiti people and deepened their belief that their homeland deserves continuous dedication sacrifice and unwavering commitment to protecting its stability and prosperity.
In the concluding part of his speech the Emir reaffirmed that Kuwait retains its full and inherent right to defend itself under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter stressing that this right provides Kuwait with the legitimate authority to respond to this aggression in a manner proportionate to the scale and nature of the attack while taking all necessary measures to safeguard its territory protect its citizens and ensure the safety of residents living within the country while continuing to uphold international law and the principles of national sovereignty.
