Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday the death of two officers from the General Administration of Land Border Security while carrying out an official security mission.
The ministry identified the two officers as Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Emad Al-Sharrah and Major Fahad Abdulaziz Al-Majmad, confirming that they lost their lives while performing duties assigned to the Ministry of Interior.
In its official statement, the ministry explained that the officers were killed during a security operation as part of the responsibilities entrusted to the ministry’s personnel.
The statement emphasized that both officers served within the General Administration of Land Border Security, a department responsible for safeguarding the country’s land borders and addressing potential threats.
The Ministry of Interior expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the incident as a painful moment for the nation.
At the same time, it reaffirmed that security personnel will continue to carry out their duties with courage and dedication in order to protect the homeland and preserve its security and stability.
The incident is the latest in a series of developments linked to the ongoing regional conflict that escalated after the outbreak of the U.S.–Israeli confrontation with Iran on February 28.
Kuwait has witnessed several security-related incidents in recent days amid the widening tensions. Reports last week indicated that two soldiers and a child were killed in separate incidents connected to the regional escalation.
Meanwhile, the official spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, announced that the country’s armed forces intercepted a wave of hostile drones that entered Kuwaiti airspace early Sunday morning.
Air defense systems also detected three ballistic missiles that penetrated the country’s airspace and successfully intercepted and destroyed them before reaching their targets.
Authorities also confirmed that firefighters managed to contain a fire that broke out in fuel storage tanks at Kuwait International Airport. According to officials, the blaze occurred after a drone attack directly targeted the fuel tanks, prompting emergency teams to respond quickly to bring the situation under control.
In addition, authorities reported that the headquarters of the Public Institution for Social Security in Kuwait City was also struck by a drone, causing a fire in the building.
Firefighting teams are continuing their efforts to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading while officials assess the damage caused by the attack.
Amid these developments, airlines around the world have suspended additional flights to several destinations across the Middle East as the regional conflict expands.
In response to the situation, Kuwait Airways Chairman Abdulmohsen Al-Fuqaan announced that the airline has begun using airports in Saudi Arabia to transport passengers as part of efforts to facilitate the return of travelers to Kuwait.
Al-Fuqaan added that the airline has received around 2,000 requests from Kuwaiti citizens and residents seeking to return home from abroad.
He stressed that Kuwait Airways is working to meet passenger needs and ensure their safety while traveling during the exceptional circumstances facing the region.
