King Charles firmly denies Prince Harry any official role within the royal family due to involvement in commercial ventures. Despite strained ties post-royal duties exit, recent talks hint at possible reconciliation.
A recent report has unveiled that King Charles has made it unequivocally clear that his son, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, will not be permitted to engage in any official public roles pertaining to the royal family.
According to a royal source quoted by the British newspaper "The Telegraph," the King fully supports the late Queen Elizabeth's decision: "Members of the royal family cannot undertake official duties while being involved in commercial enterprises."
The source further emphasized, "There cannot be a public role that is half in and half out for members of the royal family."
Since stepping back with his wife Meghan from their royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California, Harry has embarked on several business ventures. Notably, he serves as Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp Inc., a Silicon Valley startup. Additionally, he and Meghan signed a five-year deal with Netflix in 2020.
Harry’s relationship with his family became strained after his departure from royal responsibilities. He and Meghan have been vocal critics of certain royal family members on multiple occasions.
During a controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, Harry claimed his father and brother are "trapped" within the system. He expressed feeling "let down" by his father when support was cut off following their move to the U.S., while Meghan alleged there were concerns about how dark their son Archie’s skin might be at birth.
Post-interview, Harry continued his public criticism through various mediums including a Netflix documentary series critiquing media treatment and releasing memoirs with explosive claims about the British royal family's private lives.
However, this month marked a potential thaw in tensions as Harry shared tea with King Charles-their first meeting in 20 months-potentially signaling an end to the public rift between them.
The last encounter between the Duke of Sussex and his father was in February 2024 shortly after news broke of the King's undisclosed cancer treatment.
The Duke reportedly seeks more visibility in Britain. Discussions described as "high-level" are said to be underway among aides to arrange more frequent meetings between him and King Charles next year aiming for joint public appearances as a show of unity.
Speculations indicate that Harry might partake more frequently in UK events unrelated directly to royalty, potentially visiting "four or five times annually."
