An Indian woman recently filed for divorce after only 40 days of marriage, stating that he barely showered once or twice a month.

The unnamed woman from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, went to a local family counselling clinic to complain about her husband's poor hygiene, claiming that he rarely washed, wore dirty clothes, had foul smell, and that she couldn't handle being near him. 

As a result, after only 40 days of marriage, the woman filed for divorce. When questioned by the counselling institution, the man acknowledged to only bathing once or twice a month and cleaning himself once a week with "holy water" from the Ganges River.

A counsellor at Agra's family centre told reporters that the young couple began arguing about the husband's cleanliness weeks after the wedding. The woman eventually left the marital house and went back in with her family. Soon after, her family filed a case with a local police station, seeking divorce.

The woman stated that her spouse had taken six showers in the past 40 days, which was more than he generally did, but only because she pushed.

When the husband learned of her desire to divorce, he vowed to improve his hygiene and even take a daily shower, but the woman's family refused to reconcile with him. 

A similar situation occurred previously, when a Taiwanese man divorced his wife because she only took a shower once a year, Oddity said.
