According to the Council of Ministers’ decision, the days off will include Waqf Arafah (9 Dhu al-Hijjah) and the Eid al-Adha holiday, which spans three days from 10 to 12 Dhu al-Hijjah.
This means that the blessed Eid al-Adha will fall on Friday, June 6, 2025, according to Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Space Sciences and Astronomy.
Astronomical Calculations for Eid al-Adha 2025
According to astronomical calculations-which consider that religious occasions are officially declared in accordance with Sharia regulations by the competent authorities-the crescent of Dhu al-Hijjah will be born on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 07:02 AM (UAE time). At sunset, it will be approximately 12 hours old and will remain visible above the horizon for about 38 minutes after sunset. Therefore, the crescent is expected to be visible that evening, making Wednesday, May 28, the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah.
As a result, Eid al-Adha will fall on Friday, June 6, 2025
Differences in Eid Dates Across Countries
Because different countries follow varied moon-sighting methods-some relying on astronomical calculations, others on visual sightings-there was a discrepancy last year between Arab and non-Arab countries regarding the date of Eid al-Adha. This led to differences in the start of Hijri months and consequently in the dates of Islamic holidays.
