In September of that year, RCMP officers responding to a report involving bear spray in an altercation between two men ended up pursuing Bard on foot. When cornered, Bard, who was under an Alberta probation order prohibiting weapon possession, aimed the spray at the officers.

This prompted them to draw their firearms and demand he drop the spray. Eventually, he was subdued.

During his time awaiting trial at North Slave Correctional Complex in Yellowknife, Bard attacked another inmate without provocation. He first struck him with a plastic cup before resorting to his fists. According to NNSL reports, this incident led to a three-hour standoff with correctional officers.

The assaulted inmate subsequently attempted to sue the territorial government. He alleged that correctional staff failed in their duty by not recognizing Bard's violent nature and did not take adequate steps to prevent the attack.

Just shy of two years earlier, records from Calgary Correctional Centre revealed that while incarcerated there, Bard "stabbed another inmate multiple times in the face with a pen," believing the fellow prisoner was talking about him.

Calgary police also presented psychological evaluations describing Bard as a "dangerous violent offender diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder."

NNSL reported that just 12 weeks after attacking an inmate at NSCC, Bard engaged in another standoff with officers, threatening them with makeshift weapons fashioned from a sprinkler head and electrical siding.

A negotiator was required to resolve this standoff, which resulted in nearly $25,000 worth of damage due to flooding caused by Bard when he flooded his cell floor.

Bard pled guilty to numerous charges across these separate events and received a 27-month sentence. After accounting for time already served, he faced roughly one and a half more years of imprisonment followed by three years of probation.

By September 2021, residing now in Manitoba, Bard found himself serving time at Stoney Creek for undisclosed reasons when he once again committed an assault on an inmate, leading to his latest sentencing.

Bard is described as standing five-foot-three inches tall and weighing 183 pounds. He has brown eyes and hair and identifies as Métis. His identifiable tattoos include tribal patterns; images such as a devil; initials “P” and “D” on his left arm; "KRUNK" inscribed on his right hand; along with a cross reading "REST IN PEACE/EDWARD BONE" on his calf.
