In a significant drug bust, the General Directorate of Borders and Customs Security, under the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security, successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 89 capsules of cocaine at Zayed International Airport last Friday. The narcotics, weighing approximately 1,198 grams, were concealed inside the body of a passenger arriving from a South American country. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is around AED 5 million.

Detection and Arrest:

The incident unfolded when customs inspection officers became suspicious of the traveler’s behavior. Advanced scanning technology was used to examine the individual, revealing the presence of foreign bodies internally. The suspect was immediately referred to the relevant authorities, who later extracted the 89 drug-filled capsules from his intestines.

Advanced Security Measures:

The authority praised the vigilance and professionalism of its inspection teams, reaffirming its commitment to continuously upgrading border security systems. This includes the use of state-of-the-art scanning devices, such as body-imaging technology capable of detecting drugs hidden inside the human body.

In a statement, the authority highlighted the importance of ongoing training programs for customs personnel, designed to enhance their skills in identifying evolving smuggling techniques. The strategy also involves international cooperation and intelligence sharing to stay ahead of smugglers’ tactics.

The authority reiterated its dedication to protecting society from the dangers of narcotics, and emphasized the role of effective customs deterrence in maintaining the security and safety of the UAE.
